The Kashmir Valley pairs Srinagar's houseboats and Dal Lake with the alpine meadows of Gulmarg and Pahalgam — a 6-7 day circuit through some of the most photographed landscapes in North India.

It's a longer trip than most on this list, both for the distance from Punjab and because each of the three stops rewards spending real time rather than rushing through.

What to Know Before You Go

• Srinagar's houseboats are a genuinely distinct experience worth booking at least one night on, rather than a standard hotel.
• Gulmarg's gondola (cable car) is one of the highest in the world and a highlight for many visitors, weather permitting.
• April to October is the general travel season; snowfall can close mountain roads outside this window.
• Pahalgam is the quieter of the three stops and a good base for short valley walks.

April through October is the standard travel window. Late April to June brings spring blooms and mild weather; July–August is monsoon, with occasional rain but still good travel conditions; September–October has clear skies and cooler temperatures. Winter brings heavy snow, which is its own draw for Gulmarg specifically but closes some routes.
