Dharamshala, home to a large Tibetan community and the Dalai Lama's residence, pairs naturally with Bir/Billing, one of the world's top paragliding destinations. Together they make a quieter alternative to the more crowded Shimla-Manali circuit.
This is a 4-5 day trip best known for its monasteries, mountain views, and — if you're up for it — a tandem paragliding flight over the Kangra Valley.

What to Know Before You Go
- Bir/Billing paragliding season is best March–June and September–November; monsoon months see fewer flights due to weather.
- McLeod Ganj, the upper part of Dharamshala, is where most monasteries and Tibetan cultural sites are concentrated.
- Book paragliding slots ahead during peak season — they fill up quickly on clear-weather days.
- The drive between Dharamshala and Bir is manageable in half a day, making it an easy add-on rather than a separate trip.

Day 1
Chandigarh to Dharamshala
Drive to Dharamshala, settling into McLeod Ganj by evening.
Day 2
McLeod Ganj & Monasteries
Explore the Tsuglagkhang Complex, Bhagsu Falls, and the town's monasteries and markets.
Day 3
Dharamshala to Bir/Billing
A shorter drive to Bir, with time for a paragliding flight if conditions allow.
Day 4-5
Bir to Chandigarh
A relaxed final day in Bir before the return drive, with a buffer day if needed.
Best Time to Visit
March through June and September through November are best for paragliding conditions and clear mountain views. The monsoon months (July–August) bring heavier cloud cover and fewer flying days, though the monasteries and markets remain open year-round.
