Amritsar is one of the most rewarding short trips out of Punjab — the Golden Temple, the evening Wagah Border ceremony, and, for those eligible, a same-day crossing through the Kartarpur Corridor to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

At 2-3 days, it's one of the shorter routes on this list, and works well as a standalone weekend trip or an add-on to a longer Punjab itinerary.

What to Know Before You Go

• The Kartarpur Corridor crossing requires advance online registration and, for foreign nationals, a passport — Indian nationals need valid ID.
• The Wagah Border ceremony happens daily before sunset — arrive early, as the venue fills up quickly.
• The Golden Temple complex is open 24 hours; early morning visits are quieter than midday.
• Modest dress and a head covering are required inside the Golden Temple complex — coverings are provided if you don't have your own.
